About ATVG
WHO WE ARE
The Association of Tennessee Valley Governments (ATVG) is an advocate for TVA and the local governments that reside in the Tennessee Valley region. Founded in 1981, ATVG is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(4) public interest organization. We advance the interests of our members at the national, regional, and state levels, using our strong, collective voice to work on a nonpartisan basis for solutions to critical issues that affect us all.
WHO WE REPRESENT
ATVG represents the nearly 1,000 local governments that reside within the seven-state TVA region. We represent local governments in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
ATVG also has an Affiliate Membership Program, which encourages partnerships between local governments and their associates in both the public and private sectors. Affiliate members participate fully in the activities of the Association.
WHAT WE REPRESENT
ATVG is the organization to advocate on behalf of local governments:
- We champion the original, core mission of TVA.
- We support TVA’s management of an integrated Tennessee River system.
- We have been in the forefront of the effort to build a new Chickamauga Lock.
- We favor the reinstatement of federal appropriations for TVA’s traditional stewardship programs.
- We are the watchdog of the revenues TVA provides to state and local governments through in-lieu-of-tax payments.
- We are on record in oppositon to the deregulation of the electric utility industry.
- Our goal is to make sure that TVA and all of TVA’s customers are treated fairly in the federal restructuring process.
- Our ongoing priority is to work on your behalf to ensure the continuation of the low cost of TVA power that helps sustain economic development opportunities and quality of life throughout the region we share.
There is strength in numbers. Collectively, we are over nine million people strong. Add your voice to our regionwide coalition of local governments and their partners. Become a member of ATVG!
